Craftsperson of The Year

One of my greatest privileges as CEO of Brock is visiting sites and meeting the dedicated men and women who perform services for our customers every day. Across the company, I’m impressed with the capabilities and drive our team members bring to their work.

Beginning this year, we’ve formalized a recognition program to identify Brock’s Craftsperson of the Year. Each site was asked to nominate a single individual who best represents our company’s ideals, including safety, customer focus, and dedication to continuous improvement.

The nominations were stellar, and reviewing them with our team reinforced the pride we all feel in our specialty craft workforce. In the end, though, the selection committee found one application stood out, and it was my pleasure to confer the inaugural Craftsperson of the Year award to Tommy “Bud” Tharp who works for Brock at the Honeywell site in Geismar, LA.

Originally employed by Basic Industries, a Brock acquisition, Tommy has been part of our team for more than 25 years. During that time, he has not missed a day of work and has not had a single first aid injury. He’s a tremendous representative of our Bsafe culture of respect and caring, regularly taking a leadership role in safety and suggesting improvements that reduce the potential for injuries, to the point of receiving eight gifts and/or nominations from Honeywell for his efforts.

Tommy is also a dedicated learner, attending school after work from 1993-1995, becoming the first graduate from the Associated Builders & Contractors School for Insulation Craftsmen. He’s gone on to train more than 20 other insulation craftsmen during his career, and even fills in for the General Foreman when the GF is away.

Finally, he’s also dedicated to his family, including 3 children and 6 grandchildren, and his community. As an ordained minister, Tommy spends much of his spare time at a local nursing home, ministering to the elderly and volunteering.

For all of these reasons, we’re honored to have Tommy Tharp as a member of the Brock team, and proud to name him Brock’s 2016 Craftsperson of the Year.
